Member Spotlight: Elemis

BakerStreetQ’s Helen Sundaram meets with Noella Gabriel, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Elemis to find out more about the celebrated spa and skincare brand.

Being a bit of a natural skincare junkie with a bathroom cabinet heaving with little pots and potions, I was thrilled when a few weeks ago I visited Elemis, the multi award-winning spa and skincare brand that’s natural, chemical-free, and has gorgeous packaging (multiple-boxes ticked).

The brand’s as British as you can get, with products made in Avonmouth, Bristol and a fabulous spa, The House of ELEMIS, in Mayfair. I met Noella Gabriel, Co-Founder and Managing Director, at the heart of the action, their Head Office and London Training Hub. Right here on Baker Street, just up from Portman Square Garden it’s the Centre where Elemis trains all its therapists in facial and massage treatments.

How would you describe Elemis?

We’ve been around for 26 years and our strapline, ‘defined by nature, led by science’, pretty much sums up what we’re about. Unlike our competitors we’re ‘spa therapy led’, meaning we first create the treatments that have a positive effect on the skin and then we create our products. Our product development is literally driven by our customers – we bottled our delicious Frangipani Oil after so many clients demanded it following their treatments!

As you’ve already mentioned, we’re natural and chemical-free so our products are respectful to your skin. It’s why we’re the number one British spa and skincare brand and we believe that if you try our products you’ll love them. Our products make great presents for friends and family, and anything on the menu can be created as a gift voucher for that special someone.

Tell us two facts about Elemis that we might not know

We have a couture beauty house in Mayfair, The House of ELEMIS where Spa meets Science meets Skin. We’re currently offering an exclusive 2 for 1 on treatments at The Speed Spa for Baker Street Regulars app users so pop along with a friend for a facial, nails, brows or massage…or just indulge yourself with two treatments.

The House of ELEMIS is also available for events and private hire. If you’re looking for somewhere to wow your clients, host an event or treat your staff, you can book the impressive private Penthouse that’s a unique and beautiful space, and arrange treatments and refreshments to suit your needs. The whole House is also available for private hire or you can pick and choose just a few rooms. Emailcorporate-enquires@elemis.com or call The House of ELEMIS on 020 7499 4995 to discuss your requirements and arrange a tour.

How does Elemis benefit from membership of BakerStreetQ?

Some of the team have been on your free training courses and attended your networking events – it’s always good to meet our colleagues in the Quarter. We often have a stall at your Christmas Market and we work with you on your Smarter Giving CSR programme, most recently donating products and towels to West London Day Centre. The team loves your Summer in the Square events and we all enjoy your monthly Food Markets.

What do you like about the Quarter?

It’s modern, contemporary and I enjoy the hustle and it’s en vogue vibe. It’s full of everyday conveniences but with style and panache. I also like the array of cosmopolitan eateries, from healthy to indulgence. The recent modern ‘glass’ buildings are better looking and a welcome addition as they reflect the natural surroundings – trees, sky, sun. They’re much more attractive.

What would you like to see here in the future?

More greenery, more open-space opportunities, more flower boxes, less concrete.

Where is your go-to local eatery and what’s your favourite dish?

I love Natural Kitchen, Patisserie Valerie, Vital Ingredient. I used to go to Perilla on George St for their great salad boxes but unfortunately it’s currently closed.

What’s the first thing you do when you get into work?

I have an ‘open-door’ policy so it usually kicks off with a chat with a member of the team or a call with the sales team or with a journalist. It really varies from day-to-day.

How do you spend your spare time?

I try to stick to my golden rule of trying not to get in car at weekends so I enjoy a walk up to Hampstead Heath or Muswell Hill. I love walking.

If you’re flying British Airways business class anytime soon you can enjoy Elemis products in-flight which is rather marvellous. The rest of us can try their amazing products at The House of ELEMIS with their 2 for 1 treatments deal on our Baker Street Regulars free app! And don’t forget, The House of ELEMIS is a unique venue that can be hired for your events.
