Sherlock Holmes And Sergeant Pepper Scale Madame Tussauds Dome

It wasn’t a usual Friday morning for those passing by Madame Tussauds at 8am today. Two famous Baker Street characters made a surprise action appearance by abseiling down the iconic Tussauds’ dome.

Sergeant Pepper and Sherlock, masquerading by day as our Chief Executive Penny Alexander and Chairman Simon Loomes, signed up to the stunt to fundraise for local charity West London Day Centre.

Before the usual crowds descended on the popular tourist attraction to see the famous waxworks, the duo were scaling the sky high Star Dome to the delight of the supporters below. They even stopped mid-way through to wave and take in the view.

We arranged the adrenaline rush as part of our Smarter Giveathon fundraising appeal. So far the pair has raised £1500 with more donations expected now that there is photographic evidence!

The West London Day Centre based on Seymour Place provides a drop-in service and day centre for hundreds of homeless people in and around Marylebone. Fundraiser Sarah Glyn said “On behalf of all the homeless people who’ve been using the Centre this week we’d like to thank Penny and Simon for their brave abseil today, raising money to support our work helping people off the streets and back into accommodation. We rely on donations and local support to enable us to continue providing our services and the contribution by the Baker Street Quarter Partnership via the Smarter Giveathon campaign is very much appreciated!”

When her feet were safely on the ground, Penny Alexander said “We wanted to do something dramatic to highlight our Smarter Giveathon appeal to our members. We’re very grateful to the team at Madame Tussauds for giving us the opportunity and we thought the costumes of local well known characters would add a nice touch!” Simon Loomes added “The charity has a very important role to play in our community and we’re delighted with the funds raised so far”.
