Smarter Giving Update

Christmas 2017 was a busy time for our Smarter Giving team and our members, who have been extremely generous in their support for local charities. The generosity of our members was truly heart-warming and genuinely made a difference to many of the lives and Christmases of many of the most vulnerable residents.

Participating local members donated over 300 gifts during our fourth Toy Appeal in aid of four local nurseries and the COSMIC ward at St Mary’s Hospital, while £450 was raised for a Christmas party for the elderly residents of Glarus Court’s. St John’s Hospice received Christmas stockings and donations amounting to £500, plus a Christmas dinner for out-patients. The Food Cycle Marylebone also receive £200 with the Marylebone Project receiving three boxes of gifts. Not requiring ID, the over 50s enjoyed several cases of champagne that were donated for their Christmas lunch, which had also been part funded.

But it wasn’t just the donations that exuded generosity, so too did the very hands-on time that was given up by Santa’s little helpers – some of whom gave a helping hand at the COSMIC ward by gift wrapping for the Christmas party, while others helped serve Christmas dinners at the hospice and Glarus Court.

In addition, two teams of volunteers from BDO were busy arranging two separate tea parties, including a quiz and bingo game, while a third team put up festive decorations at Penfold Community Hub.
