A Greener Quarter

TfL has recently announced that London’s buses now meet the Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) standards across the entire city. This is another great step to a greener and more sustainable London.

TfL has been working since 2017 to phase out polluting diesel buses and to retrofit older buses with new, cleaner engines. Around 4,000 of the older buses have been refitted in a move that will reduce harmful nitrogen oxide levels by an average of 90 per cent, a major milestone in tackling toxic air in our city. TfL’s next project will be to further improve air quality by moving towards a zero-emissions network, aiming to meet the Mayor of London’s zero carbon target by 2030.

Here in the Quarter we are equally committed to improving air quality. Our Smarter Recycling partner, Westminster Veolia, launched the UK’s first fully electric waste collection truck 18 months ago, and we’re delighted that our other recycling partner Paper Round is introducing electric heavy vehicles too. Going forward, Paper Round plans to only purchase electric vehicles, and you can read more here

Sustainable Future is a key pillar of our work in the Quarter, and we have a range of practical services to help members do their bit to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Click here to read more about our Smarter Recycling scheme, Greening projects, Personal Deliveries scheme and more.
