Brand New Illuminations Bring Christmas To Our Quarter…

For the first time ever, this Thursday, 21 November, the heart of our Quarter will be lit up with beautiful, brand new Christmas lights. North of the Quarter, sixteen festive geese act as gatekeepers leading to a further three site-specific installations at 55 Baker Street, Portman Square Garden and Manchester Garden in the south –  all linked by stunning illuminations.

The installations tell the rich story of our Quarter through its famous people and places, such as the ‘Baker Street Bazaar’, ‘Marylebone Pleasure Garden’, Lady Montagu’s ‘Blue Stocking Parties’ and, not forgetting Sherlock Holmes, with themes from his only Christmastime escapade, ‘The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle’. But the festive illuminations are not confined to Baker Street. Thanks to contributions from Portman Square Garden Trust and The Portman Estate, and Manchester Square Garden Trust, the garden squares will also dazzle with beautiful, festive decorative designs, with stunning baubles made from 100% recycled, sustainable materials adorning Portman Square.

The area’s story will unfold as you explore the Quarter and follow the illuminations, and as you do, be sure to take some snaps! A blue carbuncle, a golden goose, or maybe a horse in a tree… post your snaps on social media and use our handles, to enter our competition and be in with a chance to win some fab prizes!

Without doubt, the best possible way to experience our spectacular new lights is to explore them on our free Christmas Lights Walk on Wednesday 4 December at 6pm, when our knowledgeable guide, Mark, will tell you the hidden story behind each installation. Start your exploration with Mark outside 55 Baker Street.

And when you’ve finished the hour-long walk, why not take the chill off with a delicious cocktail at the Churchill Bar and Terrace, where participants have very kindly been offered 20% off from its newly launched ‘Shades of Winston Churchill’ menu. Simply redeem this exclusive offer and show your redemption at point of payment.
