Duty To Protect

You may have seen recently in the press details of a new consultation, Duty to Protect, which aims to make the public safer at publicly accessible locations and may require public places and venues to step up their security. The consultation builds on Martyn’s Law, a campaign by the mother of Martyn Hett who died in the Manchester Arena attack in May 2017.

The proposals would be a significant development in Counterterrorism Protect and Prepare activity and would have implications for venues with a capacity of 100 or more, large organisations (250+ staff, or multiples with cumulative capacity of 100 or more) and public spaces.

We will be holding a webinar for all members in advance of the consultation opening to help you gain a better understanding of what the proposals mean for your business and so we can hear your thoughts on it. To register your interest, please email.

We also encourage you to submit a response if it is appropriate for your business.

The West End Security Group, which represents us, our neighbouring BIDs and Estates in the West End is working with the Home Office team as part of a consultation group. Through this membership BakerStreetQ is locked into the highest levels of the conversation and will ensure that our members’ voices are heard throughout the process.

You can read more details on the consultation here.
