E-Scooters Trial From August

We are looking forward to welcoming legal, eco-friendly e-scooters to the Quarter in August when Transport for London brings its trial scheme to Westminster. From 2 August, it will be legal to rent e-scooters from three operators in the borough of Westminster, providing a new, lower-emission way to travel within the borough.

The specially designed vehicles will be trackable, speed controlled and will only be available to riders over 18. They are also programmed to stop working if their user activity is considered erratic or dangerous. If you’re interested in finding out more about renting one see here. TfL and the scooter operators are keen to hear from businesses who are interested in having a docking area or battery exchange hub on their premises, please email helen@bakerstreetq.co.uk.

We have been engaged in a number of discussions and planning meetings during their introduction representing the concerns raised by our businesses: if you have any observations during the trial, let us know so we can feed back to TfL.

While walking, biking and public transport remain the most eco-friendly methods of transport, e-scooters are zero-emission at point of use and are a great way to get between meetings without contributing to congestion.

Please remember rental scooters will be the only way to legally ride an e-scooter on any public roads and riding any e-scooter on pavements will still be banned. Police Operations have been targeting the illegal use of private e-scooters on public highways: if stopped drivers may be fined, get points on their driving license and have their scooter impounded.
