Face Covering Compliance On TfL

It has been mandatory to wear face coverings on public transport for seven months, and we’re pleased to say that TfL has reported the public is strongly complying with this, with around 90% of passengers in London wearing face coverings.

To help tackle the minority who do not wear face coverings, and are not exempt from wearing them, TfL has expanded its team of enforcement officers to 500 and they are handing out more fines and working to prosecute those who do not pay. Over the last seven months, TfL has reported that around 128,000 people have been stopped from boarding services until they put on a face covering.

TfL continues to run as full a service as possible for those that need to travel, and you can use the TfL Go journey planner to find quieter times to travel (currently between 8.15 and 16.00 and after 17.30 on weekdays).

As well as the enforcement of face coverings, TfL continues to operate an enhanced cleaning regime, using hospital-grade cleaning substances to make the network cleaner than ever. 150 ultraviolet light sanitising devices were installed on escalators on the Tube network in October, and more than 1,100 hand sanitiser units across the network continue to dispense free Dettol sanitiser.
