Food Bank Rallies To Meet Rising Demand
North Paddington Food Bank provides support to local people experiencing hardship and crisis by distributing food and essentials, whilst working alongside other organisations to help people with issues. As you might imagine, coronavirus has had a major impact on demands for the food bank, which has seen the number of people served leap from 632 between 3-23 February to 4,615 between 4-24 May.
Thankfully, the charity has also seen a fabulous rise in support in donations and from volunteers from our businesses’ furloughed staff. From helping with social media and becoming delivery drivers to making donations of food and essentials, such as nappies and pet food.
With demand still very high NPFB is still in need of your help. On a regular basis, the food bank is having to purchase food supplies out of its own funds. So, if you’re working from home you may like to arrange a combined collection or fundraising challenge with your colleagues to donate to NPFB.
If you are local or have returned to the workplace – these are the essential food items that can be donated:
- Tinned foods, instant soup and noodles
- Cooking sauces jams and spreads
- Rice, pasta, lentils and couscous (500g-1kg)
- Toiletries – including toothpaste & brushes, sanitary towels, toilet rolls, nappies and nappy sacks
- Long-life (uht) milk, coffee, tea (80 bags) and sugar
- Sweet and savoury snacks
Note: perishables and fresh food can only be donated on Wednesdays
Please talk to our Smarter Giving Manager, Kate, if you would like to volunteer to help NPFB.
