FREE Walk | Crime Fiction Writers of The Quarter

What better way to spend your lunch break than to get out in the fresh air and blow those winter cobwebs away with a riveting guided walk through the history filled streets of our Quarter?

Our FREE 45-minute Crime Fiction Writers of the Quarter walk, on Wednesday 22 January will take you on a journey through time as you explore Baker Street. A street well-known to legendary writer, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who, owning a medical practice nearby, chose it as the home of Sherlock Holmes and his side kick Doctor Watson.  But as you’ll discover, our Quarter is home to many other crime fiction connections, which will also be explored during this lunchtime walk.

You will see the former home of Wilkie Collins – known as the Grandfather of Detective Fiction and writer of the first ever full-length detective novel, The Moonstone – and hear, too, about the personal tragedy that dogged his life.

The walk also visits the home of Edgar Wallace, one of the most prolific crime fiction writers of the 1920s, writing more than 170 books. He later moved to Hollywood to write the screen play for the King Kong film.

No need to book, simply turn up and join our knowledgeable guide, Tina, at 1pm next Wednesday outside 55 Baker Street for a thrilling lunchtime.
