Help Out From Home 

If you are working from home you can help the vulnerable by donating your working from home allowance, some of your season ticket refund or creating a fundraising challenge with your colleagues for ‘From Hearts to Homes’.  

The vital lifeline matches individuals from the Church Street Ward with volunteers who offer a friendly phone call every two days. Shopping can also be delivered and prescriptions collected. 

The regular contact helps mental health and is also an opportunity to check on the person’s physical health needs. The service was a particularly important source of companionship and support for many isolated and elderly people during the coronavirus lockdown. 

Organisers from St Paul’s Church and Newpin Drop-In Centre have created a JustGiving page: ‘Buy A Bag – From Hearts to Homes’ to encourage people to donate quickly and easily. Just £12 gives a vulnerable person a full bag of weekly shopping suited to their individual needs.  

The aim is to reach 22 community members for 10 weeks by raising £2,700. Generous donations have already helped raise more than half the target. 

The good cause is also looking for volunteers to make friendly phone calls, and delivery drivers to distribute the much-needed groceries.
