How Did We Do?


Your views are extremely important to us and each year we reach out to our business members to find out what your thoughts are on the area and the services we provide. This enables us to improve our services and form our programmes going forward. We carried out this survey throughout June and July this year with more than a third of our members responding.

From our annual survey results this year respondents agreed the Quarter was an attractive (87%), enjoyable (83%), safe (84%) and well-maintained place to spend time in (90%). The percentage across the board on response to this question has increased from the previous year.

Your main concerns about the Quarter were the area’s air quality – the level of concern has dropped on this significantly from previous surveys from 65% in 2018 to 44% in 2020. Incidents of bag or phone thefts have stayed steady and traffic noise and dominance has decreased 35% to 25%.

The survey results show that the Baker Street Two Way Project, completed in September last year, has made a noticeable difference to the area’s streets with respondents agreeing or strongly agreeing that the appearance of Baker Street and Gloucester Place has improved, along with a reduction in traffic dominance and in air pollution. Results of the monitoring strategy – due for release in the coming weeks – have shown that traffic speeds have decreased since the new scheme was implemented. Further information on the monitoring strategy will be circulated soon.

Our events programme scored well, with our food market at 55 Baker Street, monthly walking tours and last year’s Summer in the Square proving to be the most popular.

You were happy with the way we communicate with you, with our new incident alert system and also our street works information scoring highly. You showed your appreciation for the newsletter and our internal communications emails by scoring them 4 out of 5.

We were pleased to see that our projects and services had a great response, the hard work of our Street Management Team (Street Team and Environment Manager) was recognised with high ratings alongside our Increasing Security and Resilience, Smarter Recycling, Smarter Giving and Member Support Services programmes achieving great results.
