Mental Health Awareness Week Aptly Focusing On Kindness
This week is Mental Health Awareness Week – an annual event hosted by the charity, Mental Health Foundation, whose research shows that protecting our mental health is going to be central to us coping with and recovering from effects of the current situation.
Last week we talked about the kindness that many of you have shown towards those in need within our Quarter, so it seems fitting that this year, MHF has chosen kindness at its theme and will focus on how it strengthens relationships, develops community and deepens solidarity – something we are seeing daily evidence of. And as the cornerstone of individual and collective mental health, kindness helps us all deal with the psychological and social impacts of working from home and lockdown, which are likely to outlast any physical symptoms of the virus.
While we continue to applaud and help facilitate your acts of kindness, we also ask you to take this week to think about your own mental health and wellbeing, and that of those around you. To help with the challenges of working from home, we have put together a Mental Health and Wellbeing page of useful tips and advice, and each week host a free Mindfulness for Everyday Awareness class, as well as classes in yoga, Pilates and physiotherapy, and social events such as our online Pub Quiz. A full and rounded programme designed to help you look after your mental health and wellbeing, and to maintain those ever important social relationships with your friends and colleagues.

We are also hosing a Mental Health First Aid – Three-Part Day Course on 29, 30 June and 1 July to help those those who want to gain a greater awareness of workplace mental health develop an understanding of common mental health illnesses, be given the confidence to promote mental health awareness and spot signs of mental ill health.
