Northern Line Closure

You may be aware that part of the Northern line’s Bank branch is due to be closed for 17 weeks starting in January due to works taking place at Bank. The closure will take place between Kennington and Moorgate, with the estimated completion date of mid-May 2022.

The closure is part of major improvement works at Bank to increase the busy station’s capacity by 40%, provide step-free access to the Northern line and make future journeys quicker and easier. Part of the upgrade work is a brand-new Northern line tunnel and passenger concourse at Bank station.

During the closure, more frequent trains will run on the Charing Cross branch of the Northern line and an increased bus service will be provided, including a new temporary route from Oval into the City (route 733). While the closure will affect those who use the Bank branch of the Northern line to commute, it’s anticipated the closure will also cause certain other stations to be busier especially at peak times. The impact of the closure on other lines and stations is detailed here.

The TfL Go app is a great way to plan your journeys and avoid busier times – the app offers live information about your route.
