With a rise in rough sleeping recorded across central London, you may be keen to hear how best to help and curious to know what services and support these individuals can typically access. We’ve teamed up with St Mungo’s HomelessWise service to provide specialist homelessness training, support and guidance for our business community in a webinar on 7 October. Businesses have told us that they want to help but need expert guidance to help them approach this sensitive issue. This training will empower your staff to make informed decisions and practically respond to instances of street homelessness, i.e what to do if they see someone sleeping in a doorway near their workplace. This training will be delivered in collaboration with our Street Team for members to learn more about how they work and what you can do to support rough sleepers in the Quarter. The recent rise in rough sleeping is attributed to factors relating to Covid and events in other areas causing displacement of rough sleepers to other areas of London. Our Street Safety Team works daily to support vulnerable individuals and connect them to charities and services offering more long-term support and help with accommodation.
If you’re concerned about anyone sleeping rough in the Quarter, or elsewhere, you can use Streetlink to help connect vulnerable people with local support services. Our Street Safety Team can be reached on firstname.lastname@example.org, but in an emergency please always dial 999.
