St Marylebone School Fundraiser

St Marylebone School Sixth Form, on Blandford Street, is looking for support from local businesses to fundraise a new roof terrace.

A state school with a diverse catchment area, and with students from a wide range of backgrounds, the Sixth Form’s only outside space is the roof terrace on the fifth floor of the school’s building. The building was completed in 2009 but the roof terrace has never been used because of safety concerns. Recently, the school successfully applied for planning permission, which we  supported, to make safety improvements which will enable the school to make full use of this valuable outside space. The intention is to convert it into a green roof terrace, which will not only benefit the surrounding environment but also enable it to be used for other purposes: an outdoor learning area for biology and geography; a contemplation garden; and a relaxing natural space for students and staff. Everybody in the Quarter stands to benefit from this exciting project that will help improve the area’s air quality.

The school needs to raise £30,000 towards the cost of greening the roof terrace and hopes that the businesses of the Quarter may be able to help with this. There are 30 planters and the cost of installing each one averages £1,000. Any help your organisation can give would be much appreciated and would directly benefit generations of students who pass through the school.
