Street Team Supporting Rough Sleepers

Those sleeping rough are particularly vulnerable at the moment. With less people out and about there are less people to spot someone needing help. Our Street Team are therefore paying particular attention to vulnerable individuals on the streets. They are continuing with their welfare checks and making proactive referrals to support services.

Westminster City Council and local homelessness charities are working very hard to support people sleeping rough during this public health crisis. Westminster City Council has so far housed over 230 people in hotels and are working to source additional accommodation across London. It also has a charity – Unity Kitchen – producing 900 meals a day from the Council’s head office for those now housed in hotel rooms and medical support from local medical centres to make sure people are staying well and understand the public health guidance.

If you are concerned about the welfare of someone sleeping rough please use StreetLink to let support services know. If you are concerned for someone outside London please use the national Streetlink site. For information on how you can help the charities supporting the homeless during this period please see our webpages.
