WLM Re-opens Seymour Place With New Night Shelter

Utilising new funding gained from the Greater London Authority, West London Mission has transformed its Day Centre on Seymour Place to a Night Shelter, which focuses on supporting people to move from homelessness to employment and accommodation.

With 15 beds for male clients, which all filled up almost immediately, this ground-breaking initiative, helps homeless people who are close to the job market or already working but can’t afford to pay rent. During the day, WLM works with users to build their employability skills and confidence so they can live a fulfilling life again away from the streets.

The GLA has committed funding to run this valuable resource for three months, but it’s WLM’s aim to obtain funding to make the Night Shelter a thriving community hub with a particular focus on employability and workplace resilience. The charity currently has a £25, 000 funding gap. We know that several of our businesses work to support the WLM, for example, The Portman Estate which is currently seeking pro bono support from suitable companies that can contribute to the feasibility stages of the WLM’s plan to refurbish its premises.

If you’d like to help WLM create area-wide pathways from out of homelessness to employment, then please get in touch with our Smarter Giving Manager, Kate.
