Changes In the Quarter To Enable Your Safe Return

We are working hard with TfL and Westminster City Council to progress proposals to provide reassurance and support your safer return to the Quarter. Our proposals include more space at key transport hubs, on key pedestrian and cycle routes into the area, as well as sites for temporary additional cycle parking. We are delighted that the first of these proposals are now in place.

TfL worked swiftly to open up he forecourt outside Baker Street Station to provide much needed space for those entering and exiting the station. Westminster City Council has also worked fast to provide temporary widening of footways along Melcombe Street – the key walking route between Marylebone Station and Baker Street – and has also added temporary dedicated cycling lanes on Portland Place. We will be assisting with monitoring these temporary interventions in case any refinements are needed.

These changes and proposals aim to support distancing for those travelling to the Quarter and to encourage those who can to cycle and walk to counter a possible increase in car use and associated impact on congestion and air quality.

We are in active dialogue with building managers, businesses and local resident representatives to ensure we understand their needs and concerns and hope to be able to report back on further measures shortly.

If you need to travel to work during this period then please follow TfL’s advice and further information on returning to the Quarter.
